Barlows Landing

Aug 31, 2020

Clams, quahogs, oysters, crabs … oh my!

Making the area accessible, that’s what the train did.  It changed everything about Cape Cod! It brought industry, businesses and city dwellers to the coastline; those that stayed built hamlets all along the coast from summer cottages to gorgeous Queen Anne style! Families came for the entire summer; understandably they desired to “summer” at the coast.

Journey down Barlows Landing Road, passing Captain William Barlow’s home built in 1790, his barn and village grocery store in what was then known as “Barlowtown”, to the town owned boat ramp to launch yourself to Pocasset Harbor and neighboring Red Brook Harbor. Minutes to Cataumet amenities. Whether you’re looking to cruise down to the Cape Cod Canal or fish in the bay or just spending some lazy time in the sun, Barlows is the place.

Calm, shallow, sandy makes for a great place for families to bring the kids to the beach and have fun all day long. Sunset can look like no other; plan to stay to see this! Monument Beach is another great place to spend your day. Pocasset homes range from quintessential cottages to luxury size homes … something for everyone!

Kayaking and paddle boarding in the calm waters of the harbor and along the shoreline makes for a peaceful day on the water just observing all the sea life. You can make the trek from Kingman Yacht Center and Parker’s Boat Yard to the town beach on Bassetts Island. Drink it all in, no stress allowed. Forgot to pack your lunch? No worries, Pocasset Country Market on Barlows Landing Road.

Whether you’re ready to go boating, paddling, or swimming, you’ll find a place to play at Barlows Landing in Bourne fishing and chillin’ on Buzzards Bay. Golf is nearby for land-lubbers. From here, you can visit the local landmarks like the Aptucxet Trading Post, Gray Gables  railroad station, built for the personal use of President Grover Cleveland, Monument Beach, Hen Cove, Patuisset Island and Historic Wing's Neck Lighthouse  .. too many neighborhoods along the coastline to list, best if you just stop in on your way by.  Let Upper Cape Realty help with buying or selling real estate, we have been your neighborhood realtor for over 50 years!

Digi-Kn?w: In 1884 the “Dude Train” began its chartered runs from Boston to Buzzards Bay to deliver husbands and fathers for the weekends as more families spent the entire summer by the shore.
