Volunteers Rally at Lopes Playground on a Cold November Saturday

Nov 25, 2019

The temperature was nearing freezing but the atmosphere was warm as volunteers converged on Lopes Playground to spread the recently delivered engineered wood fiber throughout the space.  Wareham CORE would like to thank all volunteers, especially the Onset Fire Department, who braved the cold to bring the Lopes Park updates one step closer to completion.  The wood fiber will make the space safer for our children and is the latest step in the overall project.  To date volunteers have restored the pavilion, resurfaced the baseball diamond, removed unsafe playground equipment and installed the swings previously located at the old Minot Forest Elementary School.  In the spring work will resume to complete the project including installing accessible pathways, sanding the entire playground, and coating the structures with an organic wood preservative.  In addition Wareham CORE will install the custom engraved pickets that have been purchased in support of the endeavor.  Pickets are still available and would make a great holiday gift for the children in your family.  For more information please visit facebook.com/warehamcore.
