Coronavirus cases in Dartmouth climb to 179
Coronavirus cases in Dartmouth keep climbing as the town now has 179 people with the illness — with over half of them in congregate living facilities, according to a May 1 press release from the town’s Board of Health.
A breakdown of the numbers this week shows that 99 out of the town’s 179 cases come from congregate living facilities, such as nursing homes.
An outbreak at the Brandon Woods nursing home in Bliss Corner has seen nine deaths and 69 confirmed cases of Covid-19 as of May 2, according to Frank Romano, CEO of Brandon Woods parent company Essex Group Managment.
Public Information Officer Det. Kyle Costa stressed that social distancing measures are working to flatten the curve and prevent more deaths from the virus.
“We will get through this,” he said.
As of May 1, there are 64,311 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Massachusetts, with 3,792 in Bristol County. There have been 3,716 virus-related deaths in the state.
