Dartmouth High School varsity girls score toward their season goal
The Dartmouth High School varsity girls basketball team started the season slow, but after their victory against Middleboro High School the head coach Brian Jalbert is feeling more confident. The team won 58-39, bringing the total so far this season to three wins and three losses.
Reporter Kat Sheridan talked with Jalbert to learn more about the upcoming season.
Q: How are you feeling about the season?
A: It was a good win, that felt pretty good. We’ve been off to a tough start, but we’re getting better each day, so I’m happy with the improvement we’re making each day.
Q: What’s the goal for this season?
A: Our goals have changed since the start of the season, but our goal is to make a deep tournament run at the end of the year. That hasn’t changed at all, hopefully we’ll figure that out sooner than later.
Q: What was the original goal that changed?
A: I thought I assessed our team to think we could probably get 15 wins this season, 14 would be a really good season. But it turns out that wasn’t the correct assessment, so we’ve reassessed and 12 or 13 goals would be a really good season for us.
Q: What are some of the strengths this season?
A: The shooting, we’re shooting much better. Offensively, we’re doing okay. Defensively is our weakness. We’re working on defense. We give up a lot of points that we shouldn’t give up and we need to get better.
Q: How are you planning to improve this season?
A: A lot of practice. And if we don’t do well practice, then we run a lot. But that’s just a lot of practice.
Q: What’s unique about this team?
A: They are very supportive of each other. They’re a wonderful group, I enjoy being around them every day. They’re really good people and when you have to do something every single day, you want to be surrounded by good people, and I’m very lucky that I’m surrounded by these wonderful people. These kids are really good kids.
