A Dartmouth resident and doctor at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford was arrested Wednesday at his home for allegedly soliciting sex from a 14-year-old boy online.

Sujan Kayastha, 37, was taken in to custody following a four month investigation.

Police said they received information last December that the teenager — who lives in a group home in Attleboro — had been sexually assaulted.

After investigating Kayastha’s social media and mobile devices, police said that the doctor had engaged the boy in long, sexually explicit conversations and had allegedly exchanged nude photos with him.

He is also accused of offering money and drugs to entice the teenager to meet with him at a hotel in Seekonk.

Kayastha was arraigned in Attleboro District Court on charges of trafficking a person under 18 for sexual servitude, possession of child pornography, and two counts of disseminating obscene matter to a minor as well as electronic enticement of a child for prostitution.

Attleboro police arrested Kayastha at his Dartmouth home with the assistance of Dartmouth police.

His bail was set at $75,000 cash.

St. Luke’s hospital said in a statement that Kayastha has been relieved of his duties.
