Here’s what the Dartmouth Council on Aging has planned for October

October is just around the corner and the Dartmouth Council on Aging will be hosting a full schedule of events/activities.

Here’s what’s coming up next month:

Popcorn and a movie

On Wednesday Oct. 13 at 1 p.m. there will be a showing of the 2019 drama “The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind.”

The showing is free to attend, but preregistration is required.

Go to the art museum

On Thursday, Oct. 13, there will be a trip to the New Bedford Art Museum. 

A van will leave the Center at 10 a.m. Following a stop outside the Baker, the tour will commence at 11 a.m.

This event is free, but preregistration is required.

Technology classes

On Oct 14 and 21, the center will host sessions on technology.  

The first class will be an overview on smartphones and the second session will go over applications seniors can use on their devices.

Sessions run from 9 to 11 a.m.

Cost is $5 per session. Preregistration (and a smartphone) is required.

Open enrollment seminar

On Wednesday, Oct 26, there will be a  Center for Medicare and Medicaid Service approved presentation on health products and plans.

The seminar will run from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Preregistration is required.

Halloween Party

The party will be held Monday, Oct. 31 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. There will be dessert, coffee and prizes for best costume. 

Entertainment will be provided from the Meadowlarks Trio.

Cost is $5. Preregistration is required.

Yoga dance
On Tuesdays from 1:15 to 2 p.m. starting Sept. 13, Jane Hoffman will teach a gentle yoga dance class appropriate for all ability levels. The cost is $5 and walk-ins are welcome.

Meditation with Lynda
On Tuesdays at 10:15 a.m. Walk-ins welcome. The classes are free.

Chair massage with Linda
On Tuesdays at 11:30 a.m. The cost is $2. Sessions available by appointment.

Music with friends
On Tuesdays at 1 p.m., join this informal group to share songs, sounds and stories. Walk-ins welcome.

Family caregiver support group
On the first Thursday of each month from 1 to 2:30 p.m., join Coastline, in a partnership with the DCOA, for a monthly support group. Walk-ins welcome.

YWCA widowed persons program
On the first and third Thursday of the month, the COA will hold sessions from 8:30 to 10 a.m. and from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Walk-ins are welcome.

Elder law consultations
On the second Thursday of the month from 10 to 11 a.m., make an appointment to speak with Attorney Brandon Walecka.

Free legal consultation with Justice Bridge
On the last Wednesday of the month from 2 to 3 p.m. make an appointment to speak to a lawyer, available through UMass Law.

Hearing evaluations and hearing aid checks
On the third Thursday of the month from 10 a.m. to noon, the center will hold a hearing clinic with At Home Healthcare. Call the center to schedule an appointment.

Blood pressure clinic
On the last Tuesday of the month from 10 to 11 a.m. visit the COA for a blood pressure clinic. Walk-ins welcome.

Free pain consultations
On the 3rd Thursday of the month at 1 p.m., the COA will hold free pain consultations with Baystate Physical Therapy. Call ahead to make an appointment.

Book Club
On Monday, Sept. 6 at 1 p.m., join the book club for a discussion on the book of the month. September’s book is “Fly Girl” by Ann Hood. For more info call the center.

Tai Chi
On Tuesdays from 9 to 10 a.m. The cost of 8 weeks of sessions is $30.

Dance for Parkinson’s
On Mondays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. participants are empowered to explore movement and music. Walk-ins welcome. Free.

Knitting and sewing for charity
On Thursdays, put your textiles skills to work for a good cause. Knitting is at 9 a.m. and sewing is at 10 a.m. Walk-ins welcome.

Bridge
On Mondays from noon to 3 p.m. Call the Center for more information.

Mah Jongg
On Fridays from 1 to 3 p.m.

Cribbage
On Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Billiards lessons
On Mondays from 1 to 2 p.m. Limit of four players per class. Please call the Center to reserve your spot.

French conversation and culture
On Wednesdays at 10 a.m.
