Here’s what’s happening at the Council on Aging in March

The Dartmouth Council on Aging will be hosting a full schedule of events and activities this March. Here’s what’s coming up next month.

The Council will be continuing its 100 Cups of Coffee Challenge in March, seeking to have 100 cups of coffee with local business owners and various town departments to share information and ideas relating to the needs and wants of the aging community. Call or visit the Center for more information.

Health and Wellness

Free Dance for Parkinson’s classes will be held on Mondays from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m., excepting the third Monday of the month. Participants of all levels and abilities are empowered to explore movement and music. Caregivers are welcome.

The Throw a Punch at Parkinson’s Boxing Exercise program continues on Tuesdays from 1-2 p.m. All levels are welcome. Contact Nancy at the Center for more information.

There will be a Cannabis Forum on Monday, March 30 at 11 a.m. that will cover a variety of topics, including what treatment is best suited for specific types of pain, topical cannabis treatments, and CBD oil for overall inflammation due to autoimmune diseases. The Forum costs $5. Call the Center to register.

On the last Thursday of the month from 10 a.m. to noon, there will be a clinic for hearing evaluations, hearing aid checks, and cleanings. Appointment only.

Educational programs

Pool lessons will take place on Thursdays from 1:15 - 3:15 p.m. for beginners or anyone interested in improving their skills. Call the Center to sign up.

Learn about the Southeastern Regional Transit Authority at a presentation on Wednesday, March 18 at 10 a.m. Topics for discussion include access passes, the shuttle to Boston Hospitals, the Demand Response Service, and the Wareham – New Bedford Connection.

Tour the new North Dartmouth library branch on Tuesday, March 24, followed by lunch at the Java Shack. The van leaves the senior center at 10:30 a.m. Sign up required.

Anyone who has ever wondered what assisted living is like will have all their questions answered at a tour of Cedar Dell and Autumn Glen facilities in Dartmouth. The tour will be held on Friday, March 27 from 9 a.m. to noon. Transportation, refreshments, and a boxed lunch is included. Call the senior center to sign up.

Arts and entertainment

The popular Country Three Band is back on the first and third Wednesday of the month from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. There will be live music, dancing, and refreshments. Tickets cost $4.

A collaboration between the Council and Dartmouth Community TV has resulted in the “Bridging the Future” project. Learn more at an Open House on Wednesday, March 4 at 4 p.m. at the DCTV studio, 247 Russells Mills Road. RSVP to Amy Dipietro at (508) 999-4717.

The Film Matinee for March is the popular 2010 TV series “Downton Abbey” about a wealthy British family in the early 20th century. The free screening will be on Wednesday, March 11 at 1:30 p.m. Sign up required. Free Popcorn.

Enjoy a St. Patrick’s Day party at the Council on Aging on Tuesday, March 17 at noon. Entertainment and dinner included. Tickets cost $8 per person.
