Who was Prudence Cummings Wright?
Event Date
On Saturday, March 21, join the Dartmouth Historical and Arts Society and historian Eleanor Gavazzi for a presentation about Prudence Cummings Wright, a Revolutionary patriot.
Wright was born in 1740 in what is now known as Hollis, New Hampshire. Wright was educated at a time when there was little emphasis placed on teaching women how to read and write. This early education and exposure to political opinions shaped Wright into the female patriot she is now recognized for.
In her presentation, Gavazzi, who has been presenting Wright's story for over 30 years, will portray Wright in an interpretive costume and explain the events that led to Wright's pivotal role. Gavazzi will also emphasize the importance of education and positive self-worth.
The presentation will be held at the Dartmouth Historical and Arts Society, located at 1205 Russells Mills Rd.
Light refreshments will be served, and a $5 donation is suggested.
