The Dartmouth-based charity My Brother’s Keeper has been awarded a $5,000 grant from the The Anthony F. Cordeiro Charitable Foundation.

My Brother’s Keeper is a Christian ministry which delivers free furniture, food and Christmas gifts free of charge to local families in need, regardless of religion.

According to the foundation, the $5,000 award  will go toward My Brother’s Keeper’s Food Assistance Program, which makes same-day emergency food deliveries five days a week. Delivery boxes contain non-perishable items and items such as milk, eggs, butter, cheese, meats, juice, fresh fruits and vegetables, paper towels, and toilet paper.

The foundation notes that the average retail value of one delivery is $200 and provides a week’s worth of healthy groceries

The grant for My Brother’s Keeper is one of five totaling $13,000 awarded to area nonprofits for activities supporting the organization’s mission of “addressing unmet needs in Southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island.”
