The number of Covid-19 cases in Dartmouth is continuing a recent downward trend, as the Board of Health reported 110 new instances of the viral illness this week — down 63% from the 300 cases reported at the height of the post-holiday surge in January. 

There have been 3,002 cases in town since the pandemic began last spring.

Testing in town also appears to be up, with the state reporting 5,406 Covid-19 tests in Dartmouth in the two weeks ending Feb. 6, more than the 3,000-5,000 tests reported in 14-day periods in December and January.

According to state data, Dartmouth had a 14-day average daily incidence rate of 53 per 100,000 people and a 5.6% positivity rate in the two weeks ending Feb. 6.

Despite the numbers trending downwards, Director of Public Health Christopher Michaud warned residents earlier this month to continue to adhere to social distancing and masking guidelines, as he believes that “transmission is still going on.”

Dartmouth’s public schools have not yet released the number of Covid cases in the school community this week, although the last two weeks have seen the number of cases increase, with 246 active cases reported in the week ending Feb. 5.

Active cases may include those who tested positive and are still isolating from the week before.

Meanwhile, UMass Dartmouth reported just seven positive cases in week ending Feb. 10, or 0.6% of all those tested. 

As of Feb. 12, Massachusetts has an estimated 46,413 active Covid-19 cases, with 15,116 coronavirus-related deaths reported since the pandemic began.

There have been 527,435 total confirmed cases in the commonwealth thus far, representing nearly 7.8% of the population.
