Following its 10 a.m. service on Nov. 6, all are invited to participate in an outdoor forge demonstration which showcases blacksmithing techniques on surrendered guns at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.

This demonstration will be presented by the New Haven, Connetictuct-based Swords to Plowshares Northeast.

The blacksmith will be the Rev. James E. Curry, a retired Bishop Suffragan of the Episcopal Church in Connecticut and a founding member of Bishops United Against Gun Violence —an organization which sees as its mission to build coalitions of community groups that will build a sustainable effort to help reduce gun violence.

As part of the demonstration, Curry will use the barrels of these former firearms to transform them into garden tools.

According to Curry, the forge “is just one strategy, one prong in a multi-pronged approach toward changing the attitude toward gun violence in our community.”

Everyone is invited to attend this community-wide event, regardless of religious affiliation, to raise awareness around the issue of gun violence.

St. Peter’s Episcopal Church is located at 351 Elm St. in Padanaram Village.
