On Feb. 2, UMass Dartmouth will host a talk by acclaimed author and Professor of Psychology at San Diego State University, Dr. Jean Twenge.

Twenge will discuss her book “iGen: Why Today's Super-Connected Kids Are Growing Up Less Rebellious, More Tolerant, Less Happy—and Completely Unprepared for Adulthood—and What That Means for the Rest of Us.”

The book explores how Gen Z's smartphone use creates a prominent divide between generations that is often problematic. Twenge also argues that this widespread use of smartphones and social media has led to increased rates of anxiety and depression.

Twenge is also the author of “Generation Me” and “The Narcissism Epidemic.” She has and has authored more than 180 scientific publications and books during her career. Twenge's research has been covered in Time, Newsweek, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and television news programs. She has a BA and MA from the University of Chicago and a PhD from the University of Michigan.
