Game 17 Preview: Gatemen look to end Harbor Hawks 6-game win streak

WAREHAM – The Wareham Gatemen (10-6) take on the Hyannis Harbor Hawks (10-4-1) tonight at Spillane Field at 6:30 p.m. following an off day yesterday.

The Gatemen enter play today 5-5 in their last 10 games and won last time out on Wednesday night. In that contest, the Gatemen won 7-3 over the Chatham Anglers. Wareham used a four run second inning to cruise to an easy victory.

Joey Matulovich picked up the win for Wareham recording his first victory of the season as he pitched five scoreless innings. The Gatemen improved to 3-0 this season against Chatham.

The Harbor Hawks come into today’s game 7-2-1 in their last 10 and are looking to win for the seventh straight game. Hyannis’ last loss came to the Gatemen way back on June 20. Hyannis was scheduled to play a game yesterday, but they were rained out as every game in the Cape League was postponed yesterday.

In their last game on Wednesday, the Harbor Hawks defeated the Whitecaps 7-5. For Hyannis, the Harbor Hawks bats have come alive during this win streak. Todd Lott has hit a 6-game hitting streak and is hitting .538 over that stretch. Matthew Barefoot and Pedro Pages have also been red hot as they each have seven RBI and are hitting .474 and. 471 respectively over the past week.

RHP Ryan Garcia (0-0, 2.25 ERA) is the scheduled starter today for the Gatemen. Garcia pitched four innings his first time out giving up one run while striking out nine, allowing three hits, and walking one. This will be Garcia’s first appearance against the Harbor Hawks this season.

RHP Travis Marr (0-1, 10.28 ERA) will oppose Garcia today on the mound. Marr pitched four scoreless his last time out against the Falmouth Commodores on June 22 in a 2-1 win. In Marr’s season debut against Chatham, Marr struggled greatly. He took the loss when he pitched three innings and allowed eight runs to score, all earned.
