Game 26 Preview: Gatemen look to win second straight versus Brewster

Jul 10, 2018

BREWSTER – The Wareham Gatemen (15-10) travel to Stony Brook for the first time this season to take on the Brewster Whitecaps (4-18-3) tonight at 5:00 p.m. in Brewster.

Tonight’s game marks the back end of a home-and-home series between these teams. Last night, the Gatemen got outstanding pitching en route to a 4-1 victory. Connor Lunn (3-1, 2.28 ERA) recorded his third victory of the season to tie the league lead. He shut the Whitecaps down for five innings allowing just two hits and one walk. Yesterday’s start was the last appearance of the summer for Lunn as he now returns home to California.

Nathan Florence and Ryan Stoudemire combined to throw the final four innings of game surrendering one run on two hits and two walks. Florence pitched 2.1 innings and recorded the hold while Stoudemire threw the final 1.2 innings and picked up his first save of the summer.

Brewster got a solid start from Ben Dragani as he limited the Gatemen to just one run over six innings, but gave up three in the seventh as the Gatemen broke it open. Ryan Kreidler (2-3, HR) and Jakob Goldfarb (1-3, 2 RBI) were the offense stars of the night for Wareham.

The Whitecaps return home tonight following back-to-back games on the road. The return home to Brewster is much needed for the Whitecaps as they play slightly better at Stony Brook than they do on the road.

Their home record sits at 2-7-3 (7 points) while they are 2-11 (4 points) on the road. In addition, the Whitecaps offensive hits better at Stony Brook as they hit .256 in Brewster versus a measly .206 away from home. The same goes for the pitching staff. The Whitecaps staff ERA is at 5.66 on the road and jumps down over a run at home to 4.31.

Following today’s game, the Gatemen return one final time to Brewster on July 18 for their last matchup of the year with the Whitecaps.
