Coastal Studies Summer Programs at the Lloyd Center

Join the Lloyd Center for the Environment for an exciting summer outdoors!

Animal collection, habitat investigations, and creature observation, are just a few of the activities offered through the 2021 Summer Programs. In its 40th season, the Lloyd Center's Summer Programs are designed to give motivated students an opportunity to explore different aspects of environmental science.

All sessions include field study, laboratory work, and fun! Member prices apply to those holding a current Family (or higher level) membership.

Age: for children ages 9 to 12 years old.

Pre-registration is mandatory, and is first come, first served.

Price: Members $325. Non-members $375. Member prices apply to those holding a current Family (or higher level) membership.

Coastal Studies Summer Programs Descriptions:

Freshwater Wetlands July 12 – July 16, Monday – Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Explore our local wetlands in this hands-on course. We will get wet and muddy while collecting wetland creatures and venturing through marshes. Learn how to build terrariums and set up tanks. Start the summer off with a splash!

Coastal Ecology July 19 – July 23, Monday – Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Explore the coastal environment while studying the salt marsh, estuary, sandy beach, and rocky shore. Emphasis is on environmental awareness and skill development. Hands-on activities and outdoor adventures await!

Marine Biology August 2 - August 6, Monday – Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Come explore the ocean and coastal ecosystems. Discover amazing adaptations of sea creatures - large and small. Collect live animals from the ocean while beach-combing. First-hand observation of creatures and marine life make learning fun!

Walk on the Wild Side August 9 – August 13, Monday – Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Take a walk on the wild side this summer! Join us in exploring the Center's 82 acres of oak-hickory forest, freshwater wetlands, salt marsh, and estuary. We will learn what plants make up the forest, search for insects, seek out amphibians and reptiles, listen for birds, and look for evidence of mammals. Get ready for an adventure!
