South Coast Chamber Series Season Opener

Sep 16, 2022

South Coast Chamber Music Series Artistic Director Janice Weber would like to welcome you to a new season of extraordinary chamber music. From this vast treasury, we will focus on lesser-known works of familiar composers and continue our discovery of creators from all walks of life. In addition to the intrepid NBSO core ensemble, bassoonist Michael Mechanic joins us for a midwinter double-reed fest. Please mark your calendars for five performances bound to uplift and inspire all!

The 2022-2023 season opener takes place Saturday, September 24, in Marion and Sunday, September 25, in South Dartmouth:

LUSTRE
Four brilliant rubies
Germaine Tailleferre – Piano Trio (1917)
David Popper – Nocturne for Cello & Piano
Astor Piazzolla – Four for Tango
César Franck – Piano Quintet (his 200th birthday year)
Ethan Wood, violin
EmmaLee Holmes-Hicks, violin
Christopher Nunn, viola
Leo Eguchi, cello
Janice Weber, piano
Begun during the first World War and completed over sixty years later, the Piano Trio of Germaine Tailleferre, sole female composer of “Les Six”, glitters with Gallic luxe and wit. Leo Eguchi performs selections from the magnificent legacy of Bohemian romantic David Popper, whose works focused on his beloved cello. Astor Piazzolla’s Four for Tango packs a universe into seven minutes of stellar dance. Lastly, we celebrate César Franck’s two hundredth birthday with his Piano Quintet, an epic declaration of passion for a woman destined to remain forever beyond him.
Many thanks to Patty Plum Wylde, whose generous Gift of Music has made our opening concert possible. She dedicates her gift to all teachers of music for their devotion to the art of making music eternal.
