$6.2 million in federal relief for UMass Dartmouth

Apr 28, 2020

UMass Dartmouth is set to receive $6.2 million as part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act passed by Congress in late March.

One of the provisions of the act is that at least half of the money must be reserved to provide students with emergency financial aid grants. These are meant to help cover expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to the pandemic, such as housing, food and other basic necessities.

Meanwhile, UMass Amherst will receive $18.3 million, the greatest amount of any colleges in the state. Some schools, such as Harvard, have opted to allocate all of their nearly $9 million in aid to student financial assistance, the Harvard Crimson reported.
