Four running for School Committee as candidates file for April election
Election season is just around the corner and Dartmouth voters will have a number of choices for School Committee members come April 4.
As of Jan. 31, there are four candidates running for two seats: incumbent Kathleen Amaral, along with challengers Erica Lyn Morency, Troy Tufano — the husband of Library Trustee Lisa Tufano — and Lynne Turner, who ran in last year’s election.
Mary Waite, who was elected in 2020, has not taken out papers.
The top two vote-getters in the town election will take the seats on the committee, which is a three-year term.
So far, the School Committee is the only race that has taken shape, as no challengers have taken out any papers for any of the other boards and committees up for election.
As-yet unopposed candidates include Stanley Mickelson for Select Board, Christopher O’Neil for Planning Board, Sherri Tetrault for Parks and Recreation Board, Robert Michaud for Board of Assessor, and Michael Mattos for the Housing Authority.
Lisa Tufano and Joan-Marie Proulx have also taken out papers for their respective seats on the Board of Library Trustees. Emily Michele Olmsted has taken out papers for Board of Health. As of press time, incumbent Thomas Harden has not.
Nomination papers remain available until Feb. 10 at the Town Clerk’s office.
Residents running for a town office must collect 50 signatures with their nomination papers. Those running for a spot as a Town Meeting Member need to collect 20 signatures.
Forms must be submitted to the Town Clerk's Office for certification by Feb. 14, with a deadline of 5 p.m.
The Town Clerk's Office is located at Dartmouth Town Hall, and is open Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For more information, contact the office at (508) 910-1800.
A previous version of this story had School Committee candidate listed Erica Lyn Morency, as “Morney.” This has since been corrected.
