Playing against a team ranked fourth in division II, Dartmouth beat Barnstable in a score of 27-7.

“It was just a big win for us tonight,” said Head Coach Rick White.

Going into the game on Oct. 18, Dartmouth was 4-1 and Barnstable was 5-1.

“They have some excellent college bound athletes … at Barnstable, so we knew it was going to be a challenge tonight,” White said after the game.

Considering how Barnstable had been playing this season, the Dartmouth athletes weren’t expecting an easy game, according to White.

“We knew it was going to be a challenge,” he said. “I think we just exceeded our expectations.”

From the start the athletes played well.

“We came out of the blocks fast and then we finished it off at the end,” White said.

He also credited the win to the return of several injured athletes, which brought some strength back to the team’s defense.

“We had a bye week that gave the guys some time to heal,” he said. “That was really big for us.”

The team has two games left to play in the regular season before playoffs begin.

The top 16 teams in the division make it to the playoffs, which is based on how the team plays during the regular season, the strength of the schedule and the team’s record, according to White.

The team will play an away game against Bridgewater-Raynham Regional High School on Friday, Oct. 25 and against New Bedford High School on Friday, Nov. 1.

The Nov. 1 game will also be senior night and the last home game of the season before playoffs begin.
