Dartmouth High School sees growth in its internship program

At the beginning of the school year, 90 students enrolled in Dartmouth High School’s internship program. More students are expected to enroll next semester, bringing the total number of participants to 100 or more students. Last year, 94 students participated in the program.

“The quality and visibility of the program has obviously resonated with our students,” said Superintendent June Saba-Maguire at a recent school committee meeting.

This year the internship program was able to partner with more local and regional organizations, including South Coast Health Care, St. Luke’s Child Memorial Hospital, the Cask and Pig restaurant and Kia of Dartmouth.

This year, the program also includes 10 more opportunities for healthcare-bound students, which will prepare the students for what they want to do after high school.

These new partnerships will expand networking opportunities for students, according to Saba-Maguire.

“[There are] more opportunities for students to get out into their community and experience internships that will help to inform them as to what their next steps are,” she added.
