Dartmouth school officials welcomed a new face to the high school: Richard Gill, who will take over as an assistant principal on July 1.

Gill will take over for former assistant principal Christopher Boyle, who retired.

During the May 13 School Committee meeting, Principal Ross Thibault introduced Gill and detailed his background in education.

Gill served in the US Coast Guard before beginning his education career. He worked as a teacher at Peabody Veterans Memorial High School for 12 years, teaching mathematics from remedial algebra to AP statistics.

He worked at the elementary, middle, and high school administration levels in Oxford Public Schools, and is the current assistant principal at Southbridge High School. He was brought on board at the district to help turn it around, and is credited with designing and implementing a credit recovery program to help struggling students.

Gill said he is most looking forward to working with teachers to broaden and develop their skills. He noted he had been focused mostly on the student discipline side in the past, and is exicted for the change.
