Dartmouth Pathways Committee seeking volunteers

Dec 30, 2024

The Dartmouth Pathways Committee, created by the town Select Board to promote and address issues pertaining to pedestrian and bicycling infrastructure development, is seeking resident volunteers to serve on the committee.

The Pathways Committee is working to complete the Dartmouth Heritage Trail, a 35-mile driving or cycling route that visits 10 informational kiosks at sites of historic interest along the path. To date, two kiosks have been added to the eight existing kiosks, a route map has been created and is available for download and route signs along the trail have been procured and are awaiting installation.

The route map is available at https://www.town.dartmouth.ma.us/856/Trail-Map or may be downloaded from the QR code posted on trail kiosks.

The Pathways Committee is also working with SRPPED, the SouthCoast Bikeway Alliance, neighboring communities and town departments toward completion of the Dartmouth portion of the SouthCoast Bikeway. The Dartmouth portion will travel along Old Fall River Road from Westport to New Bedford. A conceptual plan has been completed, and grants are being sought to further this plan. The ultimate goal of the SouthCoast Bikeway Alliance is for a continuous cycling pathway from Swansea to Wareham.

Consider helping Dartmouth become a better place for walking and cycling by joining the Pathways Committee, which meets monthly. If interested in serving on the committee, contact William Trimble by email at wmjt0824@gmail.com.
