Downed telephone pole causes temporary power outage

Aug 3, 2019

A telephone pole on Slocum Road that was taken out by a car early Saturday morning caused a temporary power outage in the neighborhood, according to workmen on the scene who wished to remain anonymous.

Power has since been restored and the utility company is currently working on getting a new pole put in place.

The pole — across from Holly Drive — came down after a car hit it at around 1 a.m. Saturday morning, and was dangling from the tangled lines until workers from the electric company cut it part of the way free.

Electricity was out for about two hours in total.

Police officers were on scene all morning and into the afternoon as a safety precaution.

There was no disruption to traffic, and the new pole is expected to be safely in place by this evening.
