First responders at work on the scene. Source: Fire District 2Dartmouth Fire District 2 launched its new drone team for the first time Sunday, Jan. 5 in cooperation with the Police Department’s team in an effort to locate a driver who abandoned their vehicle after getting into an accident.
Fire Chief Erick Turcotte said his department responded around 9:23 p.m. to the area of 603 Potomska Road after receiving notification from police of a single-car accident.
In regard to the department's first drone team launch, Turcotte said, “It went well. The team worked well. We searched some areas.”
Though the police department’s drone team were the ones to locate the driver, he said it went well for their first time.
Once found, the driver was evaluated and transported to the hospital, Turcotte said, but noted he did not have any further information on their condition.
The cause of the accident is not clear. Dartmouth Police were not yet able to comment on the accident.
