Fire District No. 3 seeks call firefighters
Dartmouth Fire District No. 3 is seeking applicants interested in becoming call firefighters.
Those interested in becoming call firefighters must be at least 18 years old, must have a valid driver’s license, and must live within District No. 3’s coverage area or in close proximity to it. The district includes the northern part of Dartmouth beginning at Allen Street.
Applications are available at the 140 Cross Road headquarters station, and must be submitted by Feb. 21.
Those chosen will need to attend a call fire academy, which will include classroom instruction and training in tools like ladders and self-contained breathing apparatus to fire attack and vehicle extrication.
Academy classes, set to begin July 5, will be held two nights a week 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4p.m. Classes end in November.
Upon completion each cadet will have an opportunity to become Firefighter I & II certified.
Call firefighters respond to calls when available. They are compensated by the hour for every call attended.
