Former Bishop Stang coach to lead Dartmouth High track

After spending the past eight years as Bishop Stang’s head track Coach, Jennifer Mulcare-Sullivan needed a change.

Through persuasion from Dartmouth High coach Jeff Reed, she’s joined the Indians as the new boys spring track coach, in charge of the 61-member team and co-ed sprinters. She doesn’t anticipate any challenges with the transition, short of getting to know her athletes and Dartmouth High’s competitors.

“People are really welcoming here. I’ve already met several families who have been great, and the athletic director is fabulous,” Mulcare-Sullivan said.

Mulcare-Sullivan started her career at 16 years old, when she coached a softball program. She’s also coached running clubs for 16 years.

Mulcare-Sullivan’s plans for the Dartmouth team include dynamic stretches at practices, nutrition lessons, and yoga twice a week. However, she said she’s most excited to mold the 15-person freshmen squad.

“I’m really excited about the younger team because that’s where you’re going to build up from,” Mulcare-Sullivan said. “We definitely have some good upperclassmen, but it’s that younger group you really need to look at and get working on because that’s the future of your team.”

Although she’s still familiarizing herself with the team, Mulcare-Sullivan anticipates big performances from Peter Boukheir, Max Szteliga, Victoria LaBree, and Coral Perry – the top girls sprinter.

The Indians will take on Durfee at home on April 4 to start the season.
