The Greater New Bedford Regional Refuse Management District will host the Household Hazardous Waste Drop-off Day on Saturday, Sept. 21 from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The drop-off location is Crapo Hill Landfill, at 300 Samuel Barnet Boulevard in New Bedford. The event is for Dartmouth, New Bedford and Freetown residents only, and an ID is required to attend.

Collection is limited to households — businesses, schools and contractors aren’t permitted.

Visitors must also select a timeslot by visiting gnbrrmdistrict.org or by calling 508-979-1493.

Accepted waste includes oil-based paints, paint thinner, pesticides and old gasoline. If hazardous products can’t be used for their intended purpose, they should be taken to the drop-off rather than the trash or recycling.

Latex paint and waste that’s accepted at transfer stations, such as antifreeze and computer monitors, aren’t accepted.

The maximum amount of hazardous waste visitors can bring is 25 gallons or 25 pounds.

Traffic flows in one direction at the event, and while GPS may suggest a different route, the only way to enter the landfill is through the New Bedford Business park.

For more information, call the Greater New Bedford Regional Refuse Management District at 508-979-1493 or send an email to Marissa@gnbrrmdistrict.org.
