Jan 28, 2020

Learn about how Irish people settled in New England at an upcoming lecture at the library.

On February 11 at 6 p.m., author, teacher, and historian Christopher Daley will come to Southworth Library to discuss the Irish experience in Boston.

His talk will begin in the colonial era when Irish people were brought to the area as indentured servants. Also covered in the lecture is Irish migration patterns, pre-famine trickle, and anti-Irish and anti-Catholic sentiment in the late 1700s and early 1800s.

Daley will also discuss the effects of the Great Potato Famine in Ireland and the massive wave of immigration to America it caused, and the rise of the Irish in Boston politics.

The lecture will last for 90 minutes and feature a slide show presentation. It is sponsored by the Friends of the Dartmouth Libraries.
