Manuel Jose Escobar, 74, of Dartmouth, passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at home surrounded by his loving family.

He was the husband of Anna Maria (Carvalho) Escobar and the son of the late Rosalena E. (Silveira) and Manuel S. Escobar.

Manuel was born in Faial, Azores and lived in this area for most of his life. He had worked for Sachem Mills and had been the proprietor of the Royal II Restaurant. Manuel was also the owner of a few fishing vessels.

He is survived by his wife, Anna; children, Michael Escobar and Rachel Escobar; step-children, Julie Currin, Sandra Hunt and John Moura; 8 grandchildren; brother, Eduardo Escobar; as well as two nephews.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend his visiting hours on Thursday evening, 5-8 p.m. at the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St, New Bedford.His funeral service will be Friday morning, beginning in the funeral home at 7:45 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Immaculate Conception Church at 9 a.m. Burial will immediately follow in St. John Cemetery.
