In-person graduation for Dartmouth High seniors June 6

May 17, 2021

In-person graduation is back on for Dartmouth High this year, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Bonny Gifford confirmed at a May 17 School Committee meeting.

The Class of 2021 commencement is expected to take place on Sunday, June 6 at 1 p.m. at Memorial Stadium —  with rain dates on June 11, 2021 at 5:30 p.m. and Sunday, June 13, 2021 at 1 p.m.

The superintendent noted that with Gov. Charlie Baker’s decision to lift all remaining Covid-19 restrictions later this month, school officials will regroup this week to see how that shifts current plans.

Due to the pandemic, last year’s ceremony was replaced with a graduation parade

Gifford said that with the positive feedback toward last year’s motorcade, school officials are currently working to plan another procession as part of the district’s “21 for 21” campaign to honor this year’s senior class.

“I knew once we did it, it was too successful,” she laughed. “We’re going to have to do it again.”

Parade route, date, time and details will be shared as soon as they are finalized.

The Dartmouth High administrative team, along with class advisors and senior class officers, formed a list of 21 activities for the graduating class.

“Some were small activities, some were bigger,” Class President Christian Gwozdz-Silveira said.

Among the activities included the “Dartmouth’s Finest” competition, daily social media shout-outs, and ice cream socials.

Last week, masked members of the senior class took part in a formal dinner at White's of Westport to replace the usual prom. Gwozdz-Silveira noted that the evening included a mentalist and a magic show.

He added that while there was some initial backlash to trying to host pandemic-safe events, things “have gone really well.”

“It’s been a little bit of a challenge pulling some of them off, but we’ve done it,” Gwozdz-Silveira said
