Police station Q&A session scheduled for March 28

Mar 9, 2016

The Select Board will be holding a special meeting on March 28 at 6:30 p.m. to address the public's questions regarding the police station project.

The public is invited to join town officials, the architect working the project and Treasurer Gregory Barnes at Town Hall room 305 to learn more about the project and ask any lingering questions.

The proposed police station renovation and rehabilitation project will be part of the ballot during the general election held on April 5. Town Meeting members approved the project last October, but the project needs voter approval to move forward.

The station was closed in 2014 when the bacterium legionella was found in the hot water system after an officer became ill with Legionnaires’ disease. Since then, the department has operated out of a modular building located on the property.

The $8.4 million project would renovate the existing station, overhaul the building’s floor plan and add a garage with a training facility. The project would cost the average residential taxpayer about $39 a year in additional taxes for the next 20 years.
