Police use drone to locate missing Freetown toddler

Dartmouth Police on Monday released drone footage which was used to locate a missing two-year-old in Freetown on Dec. 16.

According to police, the department's drone unit was requested at 10 p.m. Friday. Within 15 minutes of arriving in Freetown, police said drone operator Justin Medeiros discovered a heat signature in the woods about a quarter mile from where the toddler was last seen.

Sgt. Scott Stanton was then guided to the location of that heat signature via radio where he discovered and recovered the two-year-old.

“This incident was the perfect example of where the crossroads of technology and good teamwork came together,” Police Chief Brian Levesque said. “Had it not been for the use of our drone, and the excellent communication between my two officers, the outcome of this incident would have most likely been grave.”

Footage from the police department’s drone is attached to this story.
