The Dartmouth High School Girls’ Varsity Volleyball team started their season with a series of strong wins against Sandwich on September 4.

“This was such a nice way to start the season,” said Coach Rachel Lassey. “I’m extremely excited for what’s to come.”

The team won each set, scoring 25-12, 25-12, and 25-14.

“I’m feeling very good defensively,” Lassey said. “I know that’s where we’re strong.”

She noted that hitting was what the team would be working on in practices before their upcoming matches.

“I’m super excited for what we’re capable of,” Lassey said. “We’ve got a lot of talent.”

This season, the team is led by three senior captains: Sarah Jorge, Lauryn Coelho, and Oona Clarke.

“We’re pumped for the season,” Clarke said. “I can’t wait to keep playing.”

The captains were especially proud of how the team worked together to win.

“We definitely have an advantage,” said Jorge. “We’re not just teammates -- we’re like sisters. So the trust we have in each other gives us an advantage.”

“I think that really helps on the court, bringing us together,” Clarke agreed. “We know we can trust each other on and off the court.”

This season, the team is working on building up their offense, Coelho said.

“We’re focusing more on attacking and things like that,” she explained.

“A big thing is mental game, too,” added Jorge. “Staying on, shaking off mistakes, staying positive, lifting each other up to keep going.”

The season is off to a busy start, with away games on Friday and Monday.

The team’s next home match will be against Bishop Stang on Monday, September 17 at 5:15 p.m.
