A stop motion silent film series set to a live soundtrack is coming to the North Branch Library.

On Tuesday, Oct. 22 the North Branch Library is hosting a silent film series called “No Longer Silent.”

This film series presents historical stop motion animation films from the silent movie era set to live performances of contemporary composed soundtracks.

The program is being supported in part by a grant from the Dartmouth Cultural Council.

Jeffrey Angeley and Steven Brum will be the featured performers at the showing.

Angeley is a full-time music instructor and songwriter who has run a monthly traditional music series for the past seven years.

Brum is a performer and composer. He graduated from UMass Dartmouth and is now a teacher at Symphony Music Shop.

Angeley and Brum both performed at a 2018 event, which inspired the No Longer Silent series.

Three of the films that will be shown were produced by Lotte Reiniger, who was a pioneer of silhouette animation and the inventor of the multiplane camera. These films are “Cinderella,” “Sleeping Beauty” and “Papageno.”

The fourth film that will be shown was produced by Ladislas Staevich, who was a stop motion animator and authored the first puppet-animated film. Staevich’s film “La Voix du Rossignol will be featured at the event.

The event starts at 1 p.m. at the North Branch Library, located at 211 Cross Road.
