Take a tour of the Mayan world

The Friends of the Dartmouth Libraries will host a presentation on Mayan history on Thursday, March 9, at 6:30 p.m. 

The presentation will be held at the Southworth Library, located at 732 Dartmouth St..  

The talk will be conducted by  naturalist and photographer Joy Marzolf, where she will guide audience members into the heart of the Mayan civilization, which originated about 2,600 BC and remained prominent in Mesoamerica through 250 AD.  

The presentation will take audience members to ancient ruins and caves used by the Maya, provide an overview on the origins of chocolate, and photos of tropical wildlife including colorful birds and butterflies, monkeys, iguanas, and more. 

Marzolf was a naturalist and educator at Mass Audubon’s Broadmoor Wildlife Sanctuary for 13 years and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and offers a variety of educational programs for adults and children through her organization, The Joys of Nature. 

She also leads marine-related trips for the Oceanic Society.
