Town buildings to be closed for Juneteenth

Jun 15, 2022

In observance of Juneteenth, Dartmouth’s town buildings will be closed all day Monday, June 20.

Trash and recycling pickup will also be delayed by one day.

The DPW office along with the brush area will also be closed on Monday.

The transfer station will be open during normal hours on Tuesday and Thursday 7:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. and Saturday 7:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.

Juneteenth was first celebrated in Galveston, Texas on June 19, 1865. Union soldiers, in the aftermath of the Civil War, informed some of the last enslaved people there of their freedom under the Emancipation Proclamation.

It was officially proclaimed a federal holiday last year.
