Join the Friends of SMEC nonprofit organization on Nov. 2 for its 5th annual walk-a-thon to support Southeastern Massachusetts Collaborative programs and its students.
SMEC, which stands for the Southeastern Massachusetts Education Collaborative, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing financial support to children and adults with disabilities, according to the organization.
“Our Walk-A-Thon is vital for raising the funds necessary to support the services we provide,” said Sherri Tetrault, the event coordinator at SMEC. “These funds are used for interest-free loans for individuals transitioning to independent living, transportation costs for community activities and essential needs such as chaperones for trips and classroom equipment.”
Local businesses and community members can also participate in the event as sponsors.
Sponsorship levels include Platinum for $500, Gold for $200 and Silver for $100.
Those with Platinum sponsorship will have their company logo featured on event t-shirts and all Gold package benefits. Gold sponsors will have their company name listed on even t-shirts and all silver package benefits. Silver sponsors will have their name listed on the event banner.
All funds raised will directly benefit students and consumers with no portion going toward administrative costs or salaries, the organization said.
The event begins at 9 a.m. registration begins at 8:30 a.m. at 56 Bridge Street, Fairhaven.
