Starbucks comes to the South Coast

The first standalone Starbucks on the South Coast region will be coming to Dartmouth this summer.

A Starbucks representative confirmed that the Seattle-based coffee franchise will be opening its first independent location at 435 State Road. The only other Starbucks in town is located inside of Target at 479 State Road.

“We’re always looking at meeting our customers where they want us to be, and we will continue to serve the [Dartmouth] community at all of our existing stores in the area,” the Starbucks spokesperson said.

Starbucks will be opening right beside Mirasol’s Cafe, an independently-owned Latin American-influenced coffee shop. Across the street is one of six Dunkin Donuts located on State Road. It is also one of 23 located within a five-mile radius of Dartmouth, according to the Dunkin Donuts website.

“We know our customers are passionate about coffee as well as their local businesses, and we believe independent stores and small chains can continue to grow and thrive along with Starbucks,” the spokesperson said.

“We’re in a very good spot, between Dunkin Donuts and now Starbucks,” said Mirasol’s owner Richard Romero. “They have their fans, and we have our fans. We just focus on what we need to do and satisfy our fans. I think they’ll be pretty good neighbors.”
