The Dartmouth Police shared its two-minute public service announcement on the "creepy clown craze" with the Select Board on October 17, earning public applause for the now viral video.

The video unites a creepy clown sighting — similar to those plaguing the nation — with a "clown car" full of law enforcement officers.

Select Board member Shawn McDonald ran through video analytics at the meeting, saying that the PSA earned attention on local news channels 4, 5, 10, 12, Fox 25, and NECN. He continued to say it earned national attention on NBC Nightly News, ABC News, the Today Show, Fox News, Good Morning America, and The Daily Show.

The video also grabbed the attention of local newspapers, and famed websites including Ellen DeGeneres's Ellentube, Reddit, and Yahoo, said McDonald.

The PSA earned 1.6 million views via the ABC News YouTube page, and 79,345 views via the Dartmouth Community Television YouTube page, said McDonald. He added that the video had reached 154 countries — including Brazil, Australia, Malaysia, Portugal, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Aruba, Japan, China, Russia, and Zimbabwe; Brazil totaled the most views outside the U.S. with 4,184 views.

The video also attracted more than 70,000 Facebook visits to the Dartmouth Police page, said McDonald.

"I can't find another department like that," said McDonald about the police department's social media skills.

"I'm very please to have you guys watching my back all the time," he added.

McDonald applauded the officers who volunteered their time to make the video and spent no town money on the project. The room laughed as he also added that "no clowns were hurt during the making of this PSA."
