Girls youth hockey team takes championship
Dartmouth teenagers helped lead their regional youth hockey league to a championship win.
The South Coast Panthers girls team took home the South Shore Hockey League championship title after beating Canton on November 13. After a scoreless first period, Emma Audette, 16, picked up all four Panther goals to shutout the game 4-0.
The championship win left the Panthers with a 12-0-2 undefeated record – a predefined team goal.
“The girls were excited at the end [of the season], but they set a goal at the beginning of the season to go undefeated,” said head coach Mike Frost.
The Panthers headed into the postseason with a first round bye and a 4-0 win against Quincy in the semi-finals on November 12.
The team includes players from Dartmouth, Westport, Somerset, and Portsmouth, Rhode Island. While many players joined the under-19 division for the first time this year, Frost said many had at least five years of experience, and they worked well together.
With many of his girls returning next year, Frost said he has high expectations for next season as well.
