Students sleep in boxes to raise awareness for homelessness

More than 50 Bishop Stang Students camped in cardboard boxes to raise awareness for homelessness on March 11.

The 12th annual Cardboard Tent City included speakers from local shelters, and a "shelter" dinner. Students slept in cardboard boxes in the school's gymnasium.

"When the weather permits, students sleep outside on the field in cardboard boxes. Because there was a wind chill warning, the experience became an indoor simulation," said the school's Director of Advancement Jana McHenry.

Students also collected more than $3,000 in cash donations for the project, McHenry said. The donations went toward the Sister Rose Network, Rise Up for Homes, and School on Wheels.
