Southcoast Behavioral Health appoints Dr. Michael Liebowitz as Chief Medical Officer and Medical Director
DARTMOUTH, Mass. — Southcoast Behavioral Health announced today the appointment of Michael I. Liebowitz, MD, as Chief Medical Officer and Medical Director.
Dr. Liebowitz comes to Southcoast Behavioral Health from High Point Hospital in Middleboro, Mass., where he was the Chief of Psychiatry for both Inpatient and Outpatient Services since June of 2015. From July 2006 until June 2015, Dr. Liebowitz worked with High Point Hospital in Plymouth, Mass., serving as Chief of Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine Dual Diagnosis, Inpatient and Outpatient Services.
Dr. Liebowitz earned his B.A. at State University of New York at Stony Brook, graduating Magna Cum Laude, and earned his M.D. at Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, N.Y. His Psychiatry residency training was done at Brown University Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science, Butler Hospital in Providence, R.I.
He is certified by both the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and the American Board of Addiction Medicine, and is licensed in both Massachusetts and Connecticut.
Dr. Liebowitz was Adjunct Clinical Instructor for New England College of Osteopathic Medicine where he created the psychiatry rotation for osteopathic medical students as part of the core clerkship training with Cape Cod Psychiatric Center functioning as the clinical training site.
He has served on the Executive Committee of the Professional Staff Policy and Standards Ethics Committee at High Point from 2004 to 2017, and was the Director of Consultation Liaison Services and Partial Hospital Program at Cape Cod Psychiatric Center in Hyannis, Mass., and Norwalk Hospital in Norwalk Conn.
Dr. Liebowitz is highly qualified to meet the needs of Southcoast Behavioral Health, a 120-bed inpatient psychiatric hospital located at 581 Faunce Corner Road, Dartmouth, Mass., where he is responsible for the clinical management of patients provided by the hospital’s patient care staff. He will provide aid in the development and review of hospital treatment philosophy, programs, services and policies for all patients admitted to the hospital as well as being responsible for the therapeutic milieu structure and assist in the day-to-day administration of patient care programs. He will also provide clinical care and treatment planning for assigned patients.
Southcoast Behavioral Health is hosting a public meet-and-greet event on Friday, Jan. 12, from 2 to 4 p.m. at 581 Faunce Corner Road in Dartmouth, Mass., to introduce Dr. Liebowitz to the community.
