Dartmouth residents among performers for New Bedford ballet fundraiser

Feb 20, 2018

Several Dartmouth residents will be participating in a ballet performance celebrating ties to Japan.

The New Bedford Youth Ballet will perform “Courage, Perseverance, and Trust: The Manjiro Story” for its annual spring fundraiser on March 11.

The show is about a young Japanese boy, Manjiro, who is rescued and taken to Fairhaven by ship captain William Whitfield. It is a story centering on overcoming cultural barriers while receiving a formal education and beginning trade relationship between the U.S. and Japan.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit the New Bedford’s arts education and dance scholarship program.

There will be two performances, one at 1:30 p.m. and the other at 3 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for senior citizens and students and $7 for children. For any information call the New Bedford Ballet at 508.993.1387 or visit their website at www.newbedfordballet.org.
