University police investigate offensive flyers posted on campus

Feb 25, 2018

Campus police are investigating after several offensive flyers were posted at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth last week.

According to an email sent to students, the flyers were posted near the main campus Liberal Arts building on February 22. The flyers contained a link to a known hate group.

University officials reached out to the Anti-Defamation League for guidance, according to the email.

"The practice of 'fliering' college campuses has become a strategy of these groups as they transmit a message without a person having to take responsibility for that message," the email said.

It is unclear what the contents of the flyers were and which hate group the flyers linked to.

The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Police Department is investigating. Anyone with information are asked to contact the department at (508) 999-8107 or visit umassd.edu/publicsafety/ for a link to the department’s Silent Tip Line.
