Friday, May 18

Drop off the kids for the night.

The Dartmouth YMCA is inviting children out to its Kids’ Night Out: Game & Movie Night. From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. kids will play classic board games, watch a movie and enjoy popcorn. It’s $10 for members and an addition $5 per sibling. For program participants it’s $15 with an additional $10 per sibling. Pre- registration is required by calling the YMCA at (508) 993-3361. The YMCA is located at 276 Gulf Road.

Saturday, May 19

Discover nature.

Join the Lloyd Center for its nature discoveries program from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Participants will learn about the environment through books and exploration of the center. There will animal demonstrations, hike and crafts, among other activities. It costs $5 for members and $6 for non-members. The Lloyd Center is located at 430 Potomska Road.

Tour a farm.

Round the Bend Farm will be having its second Open Farm Day event from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with farm tours and produce and meat for sale. This month’s events will include a lesson on making soy sauce and how to use it in dishes at 3 p.m. It costs $10 in advance and $15 at the door and participants must bring a pint-sized jar with a lid. There’s also a free workshop on composting at 10 a.m. Round the Bend Farm is located at 92 Allen Neck Road.

Clean up the town.

Dartmouth residents will be participating in a weekend-long community clean up. On both May 19 and 20 people around town will be clearing the streets of trash. People will meet at the medical building next to Metro Pizza, 237 State Road, at 11:30 a.m. The clean up will go from New Bedford Country Club up State Road to Route 140. Free food, gloves and trash picking tools are provided. People can sign up at www.Odiesplace.org/cleanup.

Green up your life.

Helfand Farm Community Gardens is holding its big plant sale on both May 19 and 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Vegetables, flowers, herbs and more will be available for purchase. The garden is located at 318 Chase Road.

Sunday, May 20

Race (electronic) turtles.

The Dartmouth Lions Club is hosting its first ever Turtle Derby in the Dartmouth Middle School gymnasium, where electronic turtles races will begin at noon. Children 12 and under can participate in the races. It is $10 for jockeys and $5 for spectators. Dartmouth Middle School is located at 366 Slocum Road.

Go birding with the experts.

People can take a free bird walk with Dartmouth Natural Resources Trust and the Paskamansett Bird Club through the woodlands of Wernick Farm form 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Wernick Farm is located on North Albro Avenue.

Learn about historic Russells Mills Village.

The Dartmouth Historical Society will be holding a lecture on selected homes of Russells Mills Village at 6:30 p.m. at its Russells Mills Schoolhouse location. The talk will go in-depth about residential homes, schoolhouses and places of worship. The schoolhouse is located at 1205 Russells Mills Road.

Monday, May 21

Explore nature.

Preschoolers can enjoy some time exploring nature with guided hikes and other activities outdoors at Ridge Hill Reserves Puddle Jumper event from 10 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. The event is free and children must be accompanied by an adult. Ridge Hill Reserve is located at 739 Collins Corner Road.
