Swimmer sustains spine injury at Salter's Point

Jul 3, 2018

A man had to be airlifted to the hospital after sustaining a spinal injury at Salter's Point on July 1.

According to Dartmouth Fire District No. 1 Chief Brad Ellis, a man over the age of 50 dove into shallow water at Salter's Point and hit his head. He sustained a cervical spine injury, which was quickly diagnosed because a physician and physician’s assistant happened to be present during the incident.

The man, whose name was not immediately available, was treated by responding EMTs. Dartmouth Fire District No. 1 responded and secured a landing zone for Med Flight at Round Hill.

The swimmer was airlifted to Rhode Island Hospital, and is doing well, Ellis said.
