High-tech manufacturing company plans to come to Dartmouth

A high-tech company which makes parts for SpaceX and prosthetic hands plans to move to the expanding Dartmouth Business Park II, which will be located off of Old Reed Road.

The building, proposed by Old Reed Road Properties, would house Sensing Systems Corporation, currently located in New Bedford. The proposal is for a 7,500 square foot manufacturing facility and 4,000 square feet of office space, and would be located on an expanded Commerce Drive inside the park.

Sensing Systems manufactures sensors used in products including advanced prosthetic hands, used to adjust the grip of the devices during delicate operations like picking up a glass or allowing it to fall. The company also makes sensors used in SpaceX space shuttles.

Developer Rich Rheaume presented a preliminary site plan at the Planning Board's July 23 meeting. The board raised some concerns with the current draft, so Rheaume will work on addressing issues relating to fire hydrants, buffer zones separating the business park from the residential area, and parking, before bringing a revised plan to the board at a future meeting.

This isn't the first new building in the area. It will be near the construction approved by the Planning Board and currently underway near the intersection of Reed Road and Old Reed Road. That construction is for a 6,500 square foot office building with a 3,500 square foot attached daycare, and a 4,250 square-foot warehouse and 1,250 square foot office for a drywalling company.
