Kids, families declare foam war at YMCA Nerf Night

Aug 8, 2018

Dozens of kids swarmed the field at the Dartmouth YMCA on August 7, heavily armed with Nerf guns and itching for a fight.

With their parents cheering them on, or joining in, everyone quickly got into a game of capture the flag.

Separated into two teams, the kids went wild, running, shooting, and hiding behind the trees.

One particularly stealthy player hid behind a stone wall like a sniper, ready to fire on threats to the flag.

During the event, kids could either bring their own equipment, or rent some of the YMCA’s own equipment. More than 20 kids brought their own arsenals from home to compete.

Chet Oveson, father to Lucas, age 6, said that although this is their first Family Fun Night, the family frequents the YMCA.

“We have a good time here,” he said.

He even joined in on the fun and managed to get the flag in one round of capture the flag.

The event was part of YMCA’s Family Fun Nights program, which is a series of free, themed events open to both members and non-members of the YMCA.

There will be one more Family Fun Night event this summer. On Thursday, August 16, the YMCA is hosting a Flick N’ Float at 8:30 p.m. Attendees will be able to hang out on a float in the pool and watch Disney’s Coco. There will also be a limbo competition held during the event.
