Dartmouth OfficeMax to close May 15
Dartmouth’s OfficeMax will be closing its doors on Saturday, May 15, according to a spokesperson from parent company Office Depot.
The large office supply retailer located at 388 State Road is currently having a closing sale, with 5-30% off most items.
It joins a growing list of brick and mortar stores that have had to shut up shop in Dartmouth in the past few years — including Sears, A.C. Moore, and Forever 21 — due to the rise of online retail.
Covid-19 compounded these problems for many retailers in town, with Justice and Ann and Hope closing last year due to the pandemic and Dartmouth Mall property owner Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust filing for bankruptcy in November.
The Office Depot spokesperson did not state why the store was closing, only that the company “continues to optimize its retail footprint.”
“We will continue to provide our customers with the supplies, services and solutions they need at officedepot.com,” the spokesperson wrote.
