Police say stop ‘sign-snatching and squabbling’ – instead, head to the polls
With the Nov. 5 election quickly approaching, the Dartmouth Police Department is encouraging residents to “leave the sign-snatching and squabbling behind.”
Over the past few weeks, the Department has noticed a rising trend in calls related to politics.
“From stolen property to heated threats, it seems the ‘election season’ has everyone feeling a little too passionate,” the Department wrote in a Facebook post.
However, Police want to remind residents they are entitled to their own opinion and will have their own opportunity to vote for the presidential candidates come November.
“There’s really no need to snatch signs from someone's yard or start a showdown with a neighbor who has different views,” the post continued. “If you’re that fired up about your candidate, channel that energy into the ballot box, and not into bickering on the front lawn.”
The post also emphasized this is a message for supporters of both sides of this election.
“Voting is the ultimate power move, while larceny and assault is definitely not,” the post said.
